the Chief Justice, it would be advisable for him in the
first instance to place his views before His Honour.

It appears from his letter of

the 23rd. ultimo that Sir F. Piggott is not satisfied with
the decisions, which I have given, and holds that the
question at issue cannot "be settled until all idea of the
"Registrar being an independent Head of Department is re-
"-moved not only from Mr. Seth's mind, but also from that
"of the Government, for otherwise there may be a recrudes-
*-cence of the same difficulty at any moment".
I have,
therefore, the honour to place before Your Lordship the
view which I take with regard to the relation of the
Registrar of the Supreme Court to the Judges of the
Supreme Court.

The work constituting the Execu-
-tive and Administrative duties of the Registry are stated
by Mr. Seth to fall under the following heads, viz.:-

whenever required thereto.
(b).
Attendance in Court or in Chambers
Issuing Writs; keeping records;
taking Affidavits; settling and sealing Orders and Decrees;
settling Bonds and approving Sureties; settling Mortgages;
